About this book
The interest in climbing and walking robots (CLAWAR) has remarkably augmented over recent years. Novel solutions for complex and very diverse application fields (exploration/intervention in severe environments, personal services, emergency rescue operations, transportation, entertainment, medical, etc.), has been anticipated by means of a large progress in this area of robotics. Moreover, the amalgamation of original ideas and related innovations, the search for new potential applications and the use of state of the art supporting technologies permit to foresee an important step forward and a significant socio-economic impact of advanced robot technology in the forthcoming years. In response to the technical challenges in the development of these sophisticated machines, a significant research and development effort has to be undertaken. It concerns embedded technologies (for power sources, actuators, sensors, information systems), new design methods, adapted control techniques for highly redundant systems, as well as operational and decisional autonomy and human/robot co-existence. This book contains the proceedings of the 7th Climbing and Walking Robots 2004 (CLAWAR 2004) Conference offering the international scientific community one of the most excellent forums for academics, researchers and industrialists interested in this motivating area of climbing and walking robots. It provides a wide forum of original state-of-the-art contributions from various industrial and new/emerging research fields, presenting a full picture of climbing and walking robots. The conference, held in Madrid, Spain, September 22-24 2004 was organized by the Thematic Network "CLAWAR 2" and funded by the European Commission under the GROWTH Programme.

The little Robot that cleans BIG

Customer Video Review Length:: 1:25 MinsEven with numerous friends that swear by their Roomba, I was still skeptical. How could this little machine really clean enough to impress me?When I received it I was really surprised at the size of it, much smaller than I had imagined. I was anxious to test it out, so using the quick start guide I had it unpacked and on the charger in less than 10 minutes. I do suggest that you consider the location you want to set up the home base, not because it'll take up much room, more just to have it out of the way if possible; mine is under an end table.I decided to start it on a Monday through Friday schedule at 3:15pm each day. It's a time when the house is usually empty and it would be less of a bother. The first time it ran of course I was home and I think I watched it the entire cleaning cycle. I was amused to say the least and it also let me see what problems might arise. I realized I needed to install a virtual wall to keep it from... 4/5 Cricket "Living life and loving it!" NEATO XV-21 ... COMPARISON ... iRobot 770

I was SKEPTICAL about expensive vacuum robots. I have all tile floors. I bought the latest Neato, & the iRobot 770 (non-lighthouses) to test them both. I keep a very clean home and live alone. Before trying out the 770, I moved all furniture and swept with a fine broom... mopped all floors to hospital grade and waited 7 DAYS later to test the iRobot on a clean floor as an ultimate test. I could see no dirt on the floors when I started the iRobot 770 for the first time. The unit finished with a 40% full container when done! I was surprised at the machine's effectiveness. It picked up small speckles of dirt, teeny-tiny rocks, hair, lint and other fine particles. The Neato was tested upstairs and I liked it a tad more at first. Then, it gave a 'LEFT WHEEL STUCK' Fatal error message after 3 weeks. I found out that the cheaply designed Wheel Motors get tangled and busted by internal parts. I looked it up and saw FACEBOOK pages for both companies.. it showed... 5/5 Frank Peters "Your Ace" (Houston TX) - See all my reviews, April 2, 2013

    Life changing product!

I am 41 years old and have had allergies my entire life - they have gotten worse over the past 5 years. I already take Singulair and Claritin but still have symptoms. I was just diagnosed with asthma, which apparently was caused by my allergies. Thus, I decided to wage war on indoor allergies in my house.I hired a cleaning company to clean my house a few years ago - they were horrible. I did a better job then they did. Also, I have pets and am not comfortable with someone being in my house with them when I am not there. My problem is time - I work full time and was finding little time to vacuum (to the point where I was vacuuming only once every week or other week). I have 3 cats and one dog, with hardwood floors and area rugs on my first floor and carpet in my bedroom and hallway upstairs. My house was not clean, to say the least. I just couldn't keep up with it.My brother suggested that I purchase this product. I thought, why not? With proper expectations set, this is the droid you've been looking for.

We've had this little guy for about three months and have been using it pretty much every other day. I couldn't be happier with it's performance. This little robot is a helper, and keeping that in mind, you'll find your floors stay much cleaner in between your more dedicated cleaning sessions. That's not to say you're completely out of the picture. You have a responsibility to use this robot, and while his AI is quite impressive at times, it is still an appliance. This is not entirely a "set it and forget it" robot. Think of it as other helpful appliances. Your dishwasher is great! But you still need to properly load it, pre-rinse when necessary, and occasionally still scrape some dry food off of a fork with your thumbnail. Your washer and dryer are fantastic! But you still need to make time for use in your evenings, transfer from one to the other, and darn it, they still don't fold your clothes. The Braava, is like an appliance in that way... 5/5 Dan (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews This review is from: iRobot Braava 380t Floor Mopping Robot (Misc.) Good for floors that you cant use Scooba on

Customer Video Review Length:: 7:08 MinsI have been a fan of the IRobot series of robot for several years now since originally purchasing a 300 series Scheduler (named Fred) and then later on the Scooba (named Wilma). And although not perfect, I have a few gripes about each, I still like these little cleaning wonders. The Braava 380 floor mopping robot is one of the latest offerings for iRobot with the Braava 380t being the higher end model of their floor mopping series and an alternative to the wet mopping Scooba. Since moving a couple years back and going from a house that had the type of flooring that a Scooba was ok to use with (i.e. ceramic tile and linoleum) to a different home with wood laminate that is not recommended for use on, I decided to look for an alternative to my Scooba. I originally spotted the Mint and decided to wait to see how the device faired and then after seeing IRobot buying Mint and making a version of their own, I went ahead and got the Braava (you... 4/5 JWink - See all my reviews, November 3, 2013

Good for maintenance, but will not clean a dirty floor

I so desperately wanted this to work. As the mom of two kids under five, my floors remain perpetually sticky thanks to spilled juice, dribbled dinner, and a host of other toddler-induced messes. I was thrilled thinking that this floor mopping robot would help make my work load easier. It made me sad to learn that it did little more than just wipe my floors down. I tried it a few different ways: once with the dry sweeping cloth, once with water and the wet mopping cloth, and once with a swiffer wet cloth. It is super easy to use and after the first time I used it, it seemed to learn my kitchen fairly quickly. The bottom of the cloth showed that it had picked up some dirt, but there were still several spots of the floor that I later had to go back and clean by hand. If your floors are already in fairly good condition and you just want a quick touch-up between deep cleanings, I think the Braava can handle that, but if your floors are genuinely in need of mopping, this isn't going to make... 3/5 Mama Bear - See all my reviews, October 8, 2013

    Better than a live-in maid

I've been clinging to the same beat up Dirt Devil Vibe Upright (with Power Brush attachment!) since I bought it on clearance ten years ago. The suction is terrible, it's as loud as a cement mixer, and it weighs about as much as that cement mixer. Needless to say, I have been in need of a new vacuum for quite some time, but never did I think that vacuum would be a Roomba.Truth be told: I always thought robot vacuums/sweepers were a bit of a gimmick, something for tech-junkies or, well, the lazy. So when it arrived in the mail, I opened it with both skepticism and cynicism, thinking, if nothing else, the Roomba would serve as a fun new torture device for our cat, Sherlock. As much as it pains me to admit, I am now eating crow. The Roomba 870, despite a few limitations, is an incredible appliance and I will (probably) not speak ill-ly of them again. My home set up: one-bedroom apartment, about 700 sq ft, tile in the bathroom and kitchen, carpet and throw rug in... 4/5 D. Amazing robotic vacuum cleaner

Customer Video Review Length:: 1:16 MinsVacuum cleaning is such a chore to me that I would make excuses to defer it until there is enough dirt on the floor to become an eyesore or a potential health risk (or just before in-law's visit). When I was given the opportunity to try the iRobot Roomba 870, I couldn't pass it up.The Roomba 870 is surprisingly easy to setup. Simply plug in the home base, remove a couple of plastic and cardboard tabs from the bottom of the roomba and then dock it to the home base. As soon as it's fully charged for the first time, it's ready to do the chore. To start a cleaning session, just press the 'Clean' button in the center to power up, and press it again to start cleaning. You can also schedule cleaning sessions by programming the day of the week and time to start.Perhaps it's my first time to use a vacuuming robot, I was surprised that the Roomba selected its cleaning path in a seemingly unorganized fashion. It would run all over the room,... 5/5 eau (USA) - See all my reviews, September 8, 2014

    A reconstruction of the Zoomba

I liked that little red robo vac. I've had too of those zoombas and two Roombas.Anyway, to qualify what I said about Zoomba (and this P3)...no matter what anybody says--this robot is not for carpets of any depth--they are strictly for hard, smooth, slick, surfaces/ hardwood, linolium, congolium (all those mispelled oliums).......and that's why I got this.I already know what it will and won't do. It won't do carpets.--but--It 'is' a dustbuster on wheels and will vacuum non carpeted floors just fine.Unlike everybody else, I take that dust cloth and dip it in water--spray a little lysol on it--stick it back to bottom of the robot and let it 'lightly' dampmop and lightly sanitize my floors. All in all, I remember those nicad batteries dying after about six months..I'd suggest tenergy type C cells--they last three to five years (cost more to). That's why I'm here to day...looking for replacement battery... 5/5 Oldtechnohobbiest "Mr. Nobody" (Tennessee) - See all my reviews, October 15, 2010

    Good value

This little guy works hard. The first few times I ran him, I was a little disappointed because the filter seemed to be full often (after approximately 15 min) and it didn't look like it was picking up very much. The bin only had a small amount of particles and very little hair. It also appeared very inefficient (circling the same small corner area for 15-20 min without moving away). However, after the first couple of tries, it runs longer (about 45 min as long as he doesn't get stuck) and definitely picks up more dust, dirt and hair. My only guess is that I have thinned the filter while trying to clean it, and that allows more airflow so it doesn't get clogged as quickly. Now, he will run almost until the battery is out of charge and the filter will be full of dust and hair when I empty it and plug him back in.For reference, I use it daily in an area that is all hardwood flooring with one area rug and a few small rugs by doorways and the kitchen sink. Would love it if it ran longer on the charge.

This vacuum is awesome! If I charge it through the night and run it in the am, I don't need to empty out the small bin that collects dirt, hair(even min which is 2 ft. long!), it even picked up some wet spinach off the floor(small pieces, but unexpected, especially from the reviews I've read.)! It picks up more than my big vacuum can get to. It is rather large, same size of the base of a normal vacuum, maybe bigger in some cases. Still, it fits under cabinets, dishwasher and half way under my tv stand which is bending, so I can't blame the machine. It seems to clean very random, but does get everywhere! It only runs for about an hour(which is short since it runs over the same areas numerous times bouncing around. I usually block off one or 2 rooms and run it for 15-20 minutes before switching to other rooms. It seems to ensure it cleans the entire house, save for bathrooms before the batteries need recharging. It has many functions and runs random, circling, does around edges of... 4/5 Jennifer M. Allows you to run your Brava/Mint every day as often as you like!

These cloths are the same as the floor mopping cloth that came with my Brava 380t and work very well. I love being able to throw the dirty ones in the wash and have extra clean cloths on hand. It says not to dry them in the dryer, but I have accidentally done that and they still work great. My Brava has a reservoir of floor cleaning solution that wicks into the cloth for mopping, but I find these still work best when I start with the cloth fairly wet. Great buy!

After using iRobot 350 for 5 years I thought it was time for an upgrade. I was sick and tired of having the iRobot clean a room for an hour or so. After researching the different robot vacuums a bit I came up with 2 models that clean faster, more methodically and are smarter than the iRobot that has IQ level of zero. The two models were Neato Pro and the iClebo Arte. I decided to go with the iClebo. I now have it for a nice few days and it has cleaned my house a few times (my wife has a bit of OCD when it come to cleanliness) and I am amazed at how ignorant I have been for the last few years of using the super slow and noisy iRobot. My main pros are as follows.1) The iClebo has cut cleaning time by at least 60%. It is able to clean most of my house in the time that the iRobot cleaned one room!!2) it seems that I have become numb to the noise of the iRobot as the iClebo makes half the noise that the iRobot does. It is so super quiet that I was wondering if it was actually... 5/5 Lisa Johnson "Lisa J." - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
